The Gift Box

Introduction to The Gift Box Implementation Project

At present there are 40 copies of the first edition of The Gift Box and 50 copies of the second edition, distributed in various settings. It is at the beta testing phase of development, and an implementation project is underway. This video was made to encourage everyone who has a limited edition copy to utilise these invaluable tools and give feedback. We are planning that boxes will be made available on a wider scale once all the data is in. Please contact me on thegiftbox@talkthatheals.org for further information.

This video shows a presentation given via Zoom in 2020 to Dr Daniel Sutton's AUT New Entry to Specialist Practice Concepts of Recovery Course. It can be used as a training workshop for understanding and applying The Re-covery Model, and the use of The Gift Box. Please note: The 'Feelometer', which is featured in the Introduction to The Gift Box Implementation Project, cannot be seen in this presentation, other than in the thumbnail image and the gif. Thank you to Daniel, and to Debra Lampshire, for permission to include their contribution.

This video was made by a group of teachers at an international school in Thailand who are learning to use The Gift Box and will be carrying out an action research project with their students, with a view to modifying the resources if need be, for use in the school. This project might also make it possible for The Gift Box to be accessible on a wider scale in schools. I think this video is great, as it exemplifies how to go about figuring out how to make best use of the tools in The Gift Box by jumping in and having a go. Hopefully it will help others in a similar position to try it out too.

This video is the first in a series where Josephine is role playing Annabelle, a 17 year old (not based on a real person), and Patte is role playing herself, using the prototype tools which Patte later developed into resources in The Gift Box. This clip can help with explaining the Re-covery Model framework of how to change vicious cycles to victorious cycles. It also demonstrates beginning to use the When I'm at my Best cards. The process has the title Collaborative Crisis Resolution Plan. This is what has become the Workbook in The Gift Box.

This video is the second in a series where Josephine is role playing Annabelle, a 17 year old (not based on a real person), and Patte is role playing herself, using the prototype tools which Patte later developed into resources in The Gift Box. This clip starts mid-way through the third session with Annabelle. It can help with using the resources to support someone to create and maintain a victorious cycle. It explains how the 5 part model works, how understanding 'chain reactions' fits into the map of re-covery, and why it's important to understand our patterns of behaviour. It demonstrates using the cards to identify When I'm at my Best, Ways of Getting Support/Things that Help, What Makes Me Vulnerable/What are my triggers, and My Early Warning Signs (changes in body sensations, feelings, actions and thoughts). Although the tools look different, all these conversations can help with implementing similar tools in The Gift Box.

This video is the third in a series where Josephine is role playing Annabelle, a 17 year old (not based on a real person), and Patte is role playing herself, using the prototype tools which Patte later developed into resources in The Gift Box. This clip starts where the previous video ended, and records several sessions. It can help with using the resources to support someone to create and maintain a victorious cycle. It demonstrates using the cards to identify Early Warning Signs (changes in body sensations, feelings, actions and thoughts), and how to manage upsetting feelings that arise. It goes on to show how to use the cards to identify Side Effects of Medication, and begin identifying Risky Behaviours. Although the tools look different, all these conversations can help with implementing similar tools in The Gift Box.

This video is the final in a series where Josephine is role playing Annabelle, a 17 year old (not based on a real person), and Patte is role playing herself, using the prototype tools which Patte later developed into resources in The Gift Box. This clip starts where the previous video ended, and records to the end of the final session. It can help with using the resources to support someone to create and maintain a victorious cycle. It demonstrates using the cards to identify Risky Behaviours, and goes on to reflect on how understanding patterns can help identify "What Makes Me Victorious," how to have a life worth living, and how to become more resilient. Although the tools look different, all these conversations can help with implementing similar tools in The Gift Box.
